The Future of Autonomous Maritime Power
Modular. AI-Enabled. Mission-Ready.
Built by HII, America’s largest shipbuilder, and powered by Odyssey Advanced Autonomy Solutions®, ROMULUS™ is a high-endurance, 25+knot family of unmanned surface vessels (USVs) engineered for sustained open-ocean operations, rapid reconfiguration and cost-efficient production. Designed with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, joint forces, and allies in mind, ROMULUS™ brings proven autonomy to the surface fight.
ROMULUS™ brings proven autonomy to the surface fight. ROMULUS™ integrates with REMUS unmanned undersea vehicles (UUVs), HII’s Mission Management System and the Odyssey™ suite of autonomy solutions to provide a unified control framework that connects airborne, undersea, surface and crewed assets to coordinate data collection and effect delivery across domains.

+1 508-563-6565ROMULUS combines 25+ knot performance, long-endurance operations, and a commercial-standard hull engineered for rapid, repeatable production. Its reconfigurable design makes it a force multiplier for the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and allied fleets.
Mission-Ready Capabilities

Pair HII’s unmanned surface vessels with its unmanned underwater vehicles to extend reach and reduce risk.
Together, ROMULUS and REMUS deliver a scalable surface/subsurface solution for contested seas.
Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW)
Mine Countermeasures (MCM)

At the heart of ROMULUS is Odyssey, HII’s AI-driven control suite with 6,000+ operational hours on more than 35 USV platforms.
HII’s Mission Management System, Odyssey Advanced Autonomy Solutions®, and REMUS UUVs and ROMULUS USVs deliver coordinated surface‑and‑subsurface operations with extended detection ranges and safer standoff positioning for manned assets. Odyssey’s EMCON‑driven behaviors reduce exposure to counter‑detection, while its fully autonomous, COLREGs‑compliant navigation uses fused RADAR, EO/IR and AIS sensing to operate safely without operator input.
With millions of hours of operation, the architecture is operationally proven and production‑ready.
Features
Built with leading industry partners Breaux Brothers, Beier Integrated Systems, and Incat Crowther, ROMULUS features a commercial-standard hull optimized for rapid, repeatable production, and mission-ready deployment.
Through collaborations with Shield AI, Applied Intuition, and C3 AI, ROMULUS expands its autonomy, object classification, and lifecycle sustainment capabilities.
Odyssey’s open-standard, government-aligned architecture allows rapid integration of new sensors, payloads, and third-party autonomy technology. This open-access approach enables industry, government, and academia to test and refine capabilities, ensuring ROMULUS evolves in step with emerging naval concepts of operations.
All of which align ROMULUS with the goals of major emerging programs, including the U.S. Navy’s Modular Attack Surface Craft (MASC), the U.S. Marine Corps’ Long Range Unmanned Surface Vessel (LRUSV), and next-generation naval unmanned programs.

With ROMULUS, HII reinforces its position as the global leader in durable, mission-ready autonomous unmanned systems. Developed with support from HII’s Dark Sea Labs Advanced Technology Group, ROMULUS takes its place alongside the proven REMUS UUV line with more than 700 delivered to over 30 nations—and over 90% still operational after more than two decades.
Together, ROMULUS and REMUS, powered by HII’s Odyssey autonomy, form a dual-domain family of unmanned platforms that expands operational reach, maximizes mission flexibility, and ensures dependable performance across the full maritime spectrum.
